Privacy Policy

Last updated

This policy explains what personal data YTNiches collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep it in plain language. If something isn't clear, email support@ytniches.com.

Who's responsible

YTNiches is run by Waris Jamil, a sole proprietor, based in Pakistan, who is responsible for your data (the "controller" under the GDPR and UK GDPR). Contact: support@ytniches.com.

The short version

  • You sign in with Google, or with an email address and password. With Google we get your name, email and profile picture, and nothing from your YouTube account. Passwords are stored only in hashed form by our sign-in provider; we never see them.
  • The YouTube data we show is public data about channels and videos. We keep it for 30 days at most.
  • We never see your card details. Our payment processor handles payments.
  • We don't sell your data, and we don't use advertising cookies.
  • You can ask us to export or delete your data at any time.

What we collect

When you sign in with Google: your name, email address and profile picture. We don't ask for access to your YouTube account, your Google Drive, or anything else.

When you sign up with an email address and password: your email address and your password. The password is stored only as a salted hash by Supabase, our sign-in provider, so nobody at YTNiches can read it. We email you a link to verify the address before the account can be used. To stop password guessing, we count failed sign-in attempts for 15 minutes against a one-way hash of the email address, not the address itself.

Your profile: your time zone (read from your browser the first time you open the app, or chosen in Settings), your onboarding answers, your theme, and, if you add one, your own YouTube channel.

What you do in YTNiches: the channels you track, notification settings and quiet hours, the prompts and thumbnail ideas you generate (including the audience, tone and feedback you enter), workspace membership and invitations (the email addresses you invite), tasks and calendar entries, your credit history, and in-app notifications.

Billing: your plan, its status and dates, and the IDs our payment processor uses for your subscription. We also keep the billing notifications the processor sends us, which include your name and email. We never receive or store your card or bank details.

Usage and device data:

  • Product analytics (PostHog): pages you view, clicks, and events like "ran a first search", linked to your account once you've signed in. It runs without cookies (see the Cookie Policy).
  • Error reports (Sentry): when something breaks, a report of the error, your browser and the page. We turn off Sentry's collection of personal data, and we strip secrets before sending.
  • IP address: used briefly to rate-limit the free tools, the newsletter form and searches, then discarded.
  • Bot protection (Cloudflare Turnstile): on the email sign-up, log-in and password-reset forms, Cloudflare checks signals from your browser, including your IP address, to tell people from automated abuse.

Email: if you subscribe to our newsletter, your email address. Transactional emails (verification and password-reset links, a notice if password sign-in is paused after failed attempts, invites, digests, notifications) go to your account email.

YouTube API Services

YTNiches uses YouTube API Services to show data about YouTube channels and videos. By using YTNiches you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service. Google's handling of that data is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.

  • What we access: public channel and video data. That means names, descriptions, thumbnails, tags, publish dates, and view, subscriber and video counts. We fetch it with our own API key, not through your YouTube account. We never ask for access to your YouTube account, and signing in with Google shares only your name, email address and profile picture.
  • What we store:
    • public data for the channels and videos you search for or track, and the events we detect for them (new videos, view milestones, outliers);
    • public data for channels our nightly discovery finds by searching YouTube for public niche keywords;
    • figures we calculate from that data: a daily total-views reading per channel, kept for 30 days, and daily niche totals (a niche's score, channel count and median views), kept for 30 days. Niche totals contain no channel names, video titles or other channel details.
  • Our own figures: outlier scores, opportunity scores, niche tags and revenue estimates are calculated by YTNiches. They are our estimates, not data from YouTube, and we label them that way in the app.
  • How we use it: to run Niche Finder, Competitor Tracking, Outliers and AI Prompts for you. When you generate prompts, a video's title, description and tags are sent to our AI provider (see below).
  • Sharing: we don't sell YouTube data or share it with anyone beyond the service providers listed below.
  • How we refresh and delete it: stored YouTube data is refreshed or deleted within 30 days. Channels you track are refreshed on your plan's schedule. Channels found by discovery are refreshed every 2, 7, or 25 days, depending on how active they are. Every day, we delete anything that hasn't been refreshed within 30 days, or empty it if one of your saved prompts still points at it.
  • Deleting your data: email support@ytniches.com from your account email to delete your account and the data stored with it (tracked channels, prompts, notifications and settings). We complete deletion within 30 days. Deleting data from YTNiches doesn't change anything stored by YouTube; to delete data on YouTube itself, use YouTube.
  • Revoking access: you can remove YTNiches' access to your Google account at any time from Google's security settings. When you do, you'll be signed out and can ask us to delete your data as described above.

How we use your data, and why

Each use has a legal basis under the GDPR and UK GDPR:

  • Running your account and the features you use: to perform our contract with you.
  • Taking payments and keeping billing records: our contract, and our legal obligations for tax and accounting.
  • Sending digests and notifications you turned on: our contract. You can turn them off at any time.
  • Sending the newsletter: your consent. Unsubscribe at any time.
  • Measuring how the product is used, and fixing errors: our legitimate interest in a working, improving product.
  • Preventing abuse (rate limits, fraud checks): our legitimate interest in keeping the service safe.

We don't sell your personal data, we don't use it for advertising, and we don't make decisions about you based solely on automated processing.

AI processing

AI Prompts and Thumbnail ideas are generated by OpenAI. For each request we send the video's title, description and tags, plus what you entered: target audience, tone and feedback. We don't send your name or email. Under OpenAI's API terms, it doesn't use this data to train its models by default.

Who we share data with

We use these providers to run YTNiches. Each processes data only to provide its service to us.

  • Google: sign-in, and YouTube API Services.
  • Vercel: hosting the website and app.
  • Supabase: our database, sign-in (including hashed passwords) and sessions.
  • Cloudflare: bot protection (Turnstile) on the email sign-in forms.
  • Upstash: short-lived caching and rate limiting.
  • Inngest: running background jobs, like channel syncs and digests.
  • Resend: sending email.
  • PostHog: product analytics.
  • Sentry: error reports.
  • OpenAI: AI Prompts and Thumbnail ideas.
  • Our payment processor: taking payments as Merchant of Record. Its privacy policy is linked at checkout.

People you work with: if you join a workspace, its members see your name, profile picture, and the tasks and calendar entries you share there.

The law: we disclose data if the law requires it, or to protect our users or our rights.

Cookies

We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in. There are no analytics or advertising cookies. The Cookie Policy has the details.

How long we keep data

  • Your account and what you create: until you delete your account. We then delete it within 30 days.
  • YouTube data: refreshed or deleted within 30 days (see above).
  • Activity-feed items and YouTube notifications: 30 days.
  • Billing records: as long as tax and accounting law requires.
  • Error reports and analytics: as long as each provider's retention setting keeps them.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can:

  • Get a copy of your data (export).
  • Correct data that's wrong.
  • Delete your account and data.
  • Object to our use of your data for analytics, or restrict it.
  • Withdraw consent, for example by unsubscribing from the newsletter.
  • Revoke Google access at Google's security settings.

To export, correct or delete your data, email support@ytniches.com from your account email. We'll complete the request within 30 days. If you're in the EU or UK and unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to your local data protection authority.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Our database uses row-level security, so each account can only read its own data, and admin tools are limited to us. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you, we'll tell you as the law requires.

International transfers

Our providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on the safeguards our providers offer, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

Children

YTNiches isn't for anyone under 16. If you think a child has given us data, email us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we make a change that matters, we'll tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
